Q: What is mediation?
A: It is a consensual and flexible dispute resolution procedure targeted to achieve a speedy, economical and non acrimonious resolution of the dispute. Mediation is suitable for family, personal injury, commercial and other types of civil disputes.
Q: What is pro bono Pre action Mediation of Penang disputes?
A: It means no fee charged mediation to resolve disputes amongst Penangites and/or that arose from Penang civil and commercial transactions before referring them to court or arbitration.
Q: What is Court Annexed mediation?
A: It means mediation required by the Courts after the dispute has been filed in Court.
Q: What can the Mediation Bureau offer?
A: The Bureau maintains a list of trained mediators to be chosen by disputants or appointed by the Mediation Bureau if requested by both disputants for pre action mediation. These mediators will also undertake Court Annexed mediation as and when requested by the Penang Courts.
Q: Why are Justices of the Peace suitable to undertake mediation?
A: They are eminent persons with high local community standing having undergone mediation skills training are best fitted to offer pro bono mediation service to the State of Penang.

In addition, Justices of the Peace with mediation training can serve in other state statutory committees, namely:
a. State Coordinating and Advisory Committee membership and leadership pursuant to Rukun Tetangga Act 2012
b. State Enquiries ordered under the Commission of Enquiry Act 1950
